BlackBerry Onyx spotted
electricpig.co.uk - 11/05/09
Images of the BlackBerry Onyx, a new BlackBerry with all the power of a BlackBerry Bold and none of the size, have just leaked online. Move over Niagara, this is the new flagship ‘Berry right here. You could be forgiven for thinking Mr Blurrycam has snapped a picture of a BlackBerry Curve 8900, but look closely and you’ll spot the differences. Independent sources have said this is the BlackBerry Onyx, which will pack a carbon fibre-style casing, new keypad, 3.2MP camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, and - the dealbreaker - 3G. The BlackBerry Onyx, or BlackBerry Driftwood, as some sources are calling it, is believed to be launching on T-Mobile in the US in September. That could bode well for UK BlackBerry addicts, as the Curve 8900 came out in Britain two months before America. If you’re mixed up here, this is what we can tell so far. The BlackBerry Niagara 9630 and BlackBerry Onyx both take the BlackBerry Curve 8900’s shell and screen, and the Bold’s keypad and 3G thrown in for good measure, though the BlackBerry Onyx reportedly keeps the Wi-Fi and, when finished, will get an optical trackpad. The BlackBerry Curve 8520 meanwhile is likely to be for business users who need better battery life over 3G or a better screen resolution. Confused? We are too. With the BlackBerry Onyx, RIM’s now got no fewer than four BlackBerry models in the pipeline let’s hope some of them get unveiled soon.
