The Ever Popular Nokia N95 / N96

There is a time, especially in the technology field, more so in mobile technology that comes along, pretty much every few years that brings with it a new standard. The Nokia N95 is the perfect example of this. For years, Nokia had the monopoly of the mobile phone market. If you were going to purchase a mobile phone, it had to be a Nokia. There was no substitute. The releases from the likes of Ericsson (before they become Sony Ericsson) were simply awful and the other manufacturers out there were not much better. Over the next few years, the mobile phone market really opened out with many manufacturers offering handsets that rivaled Nokias based on cost, features and design style and as a result, Nokia kind of became just another player in the industry.

That was until the release of their Nokia N95. If there has been one phone over the past 5 years that has made a huge impact, it is this. The popularity was mainly down to its 5 mega pixel camera. The first of its kind seen in the UK. If this feature wasn’t enough (which it was in most cases) the introduction of GPS, Sat Nav and WiFi capabilities only added to its popularity. The Nokia N95 was the perfect phone for its time, it had everything you could ever want packed within, for the most part, a good looking shell. The only issue was that it was a little bigger compared to the other thin style phones in the market - but that didn’t put people off.

Even today, the Nokia N95 continues to be extremely popular and with the introduction of the higher spec Nokia N96, Nokia are continuing to be a major force in the industry. Let’s hope Nokia continue on with this trend and don’t fall back into the trap of making mediocre handsets.
