The Samsung G600
I must admit, when it comes to choosing a new mobile phone, I prefer choosing one based on its cosmetic looks than the technology that is held within it. I need a phone to call people, send text messages and to look good when I put it out on the table. That’s it. If I want a camera, I’ll buy a camera, if I want an MP3 player, I’ll buy one, and so on.
It is because of this reason alone, the cosmetics of the Samsung G600 that I decided to purchase one. The phone looked perfect, a fantastic design, thin and light and most importantly, looked modern. It has / had one of those designs that looked as if it could stand the test of time and wouldn’t seem out of date in just a couple of years like some of the Nokia handsets appear to do. The phone was perfect, it fit inside my pocket nicely, most of the time I didn’t even feel it, exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, that’s all it was, a nice looking gadget.
The Samsung G600 has quite possibly the worst interface / software I have ever used on a mobile phone. The navigation doesn’t make sense and does not flow correctly whatsoever. That coupled with the semi touch screen style buttons make doing anything on this phone an absolute nightmare. I know I said that I wanted to simply make calls - but even that was a chore. The second and most annoying issue for me personally was the battery life - or lack of it. I had to charge the handset almost daily for just a few hours or talk time - not very practical for someone who makes a lot of calls.
I am sure Samsung have improved their software greatly these days and have noticed that they’re either realising touch screens or keypad based phones, not this hybrid nonsense. That can only be a good thing.
